In diesem Buch werden grundlegende Algorithmen wie Binäre Suche, Quicksort, Dijkstra's Algorithmus zum Finden des kürzesten Weges zwischen zwei Knoten in einem Grafen und die Suche von Strings in größeren Strings anschaulich erklärt. Auch geeignete Datenstrukturen werden vorgestellt. Es wird auch beschrieben, wie der Aufwand von Algorithmen bewertet werden kann. Am Beispiel von Simulated Annealing und Backtracking wird beschrieben, wie man an Optimierungsprobleme herangehen kann.Einige Bemerkungen über gewisse Verfahren der Mustererkennung klingen unsachlich und unpassend. Codebeispiele sind in C geschrieben und für moderne Softwareentwickler nicht unbedingt spontan verständlich. Daher habe ich hier einen Stern abgezogen.Insgesamt ist dieses Buch verständlich, anschaulich und praxisnah geschrieben. Es ist sowohl für Studenten als auch für Softwareentwickler im Beruf sehr empfehlenswert.
Das Buch ist gut schrieben und durch die Anekdoten sehr interessant zu lesen. Leider findet sich in meinem Arbeitsalltag kaum Anwendung für die Algorithmen. Bis einige Hunderttausend Elemente ist die rohe Gewalt von Cache-Effizienz gewöhnlich stärker als elegante Algorithmen. Irgendwie schade.

The content of this book is amazing, clear, to the point and useful as a reference, but I was also pleasantly surprised by the quality of the hardcover edition.
It's the most clear algorithms book I've ever read.
Dieses Buch wird sehr überschätzt. Es ist eine eher eine Sammlung von Algorithmen. Es lehrt einen nichts, es listet nur auf, welche (teilweise sehr exotischen) Algorithmen für ein Problem existieren. Die Code-Beispiele sind in Pseudo-C und kaum direkt anwendbar. Das macht das Buch vielleicht zu einer guten Referenz für einen PostDoc. Für den Rest ist Algorithms by Sedgewick ([...]) aber ein viel besseres Buch zum Lernen und tatsächlichen Verstehen von Algorithmen.
Die Steven S Skiena-Algorithmus Design Manual wirklich geholfen, viel und vor allem sind sie einfach zu verstehen und impliziert sind. Dank Amazon für die immer das Buch in einer sehr einfachen Art und Weise.
Ich bin quasi neu in der "Optimierer Szene". Das ist erst mein drittes Buch über Optimierung. So please take my review with a grain of salt.Mein spezifisches Optimierungsproblem ist ein "Integer/Combinatorial Otimization" Problem. So NP vollständig wie ein Problem nur sein kann und leider auch keiner der Klassiker aus der akademischen Literatur (kein TSP, kein echtes VRP, kein shortest Path, kein Knapsack...). oder wenigsten seh ich es so (was nicht viel aussagt.....leider). Also bin/war ich auf der Suche nach einem Buch, das es einem eine Einführung in das Design von Algos bietet. Obwohl das Buch weniger über Heurismen und Meta-Heurismen handelt, wie ich es mir erhofft habe, war es doch ein echter Glückstreffer, der mir bestimmt cnoch tolle Dienste leisten wird. Der I Teil des Buches behandelt das genereölle Design von Algos, Teil II ist ein Katalog/eine Klassifizierung von Problemen.Das Buch deckt also recht viele Themenbereiche ab (einfach mal einen Blick ins Inhaltsverzeichnis werfen). Kurz und knapp, dafür aber sehr übersichtlich, prägnant und gut verständlich. Kein Formelmarathon und trotzdem, so finde ich, mit genügend Tiefe. Die "War Stories" sind unterhaltsam aber auch lehrreich. Auf der Home Page des Autors gibts code und interessante links.Ich finds Klasse!
